Year 4

Welcome to Year 4!

In Year 4 you will be taught by Mrs Harris and Mrs Whitwood (4H), Miss Webb and Mrs Mazurkiewicz (4W) and Mr Brennan and Mrs Harrington (4B).

Please look at the yearly overview to find out all of the exciting topics we will be learning about this year!

Homework

In Year 4 we ask that children read for 10 minutes a night at least 5 times a week as part of their weekly homework. To encourage their independence, we also ask children to write a comment in their reading record about what they have read. Parents please sign underneath this to confirm that your child has read, however f you also wish to make a comment  you are free to do so. Reading records must be signed by a parent before your child can change their reading book.

In Year 4 we will also send home either spellings or times tables to practice for that week which should take 5 minutes a night.

In addition to this, we may also send home a short, additional task for your child to complete at home.

Homework will be sent out on a Thursday and must be returned to school on Tuesday morning. If, for whatever reason, your child cannot complete the homework, please write a note to the class teacher to let them know.

Many thanks,

Year 4 class teachers

In Year 4 we have been learning about the Benin Kingdom. After researching brass plaques of the Oba, we tried to create some of our own using linoleum tiles.

We conducted an experiment to see the effect that different liquids can have on your teeth. We used egg shell to act as the tooth and covered the egg shell in the liquid for two days. These were the results!

We had a lot of fun learning about how the digestive system works. We made our own digestive system using some tights, orange juice, crackers, water, plastic cups and a plastic bag.

Bini West African creation story

We have been working on this creation myth this week. We found that telling it out loud and using actions helps us remember the structure and story.

World Book Day! We enjoyed getting creative with our costumes!

We have been studying famous French artists. Here are some of our still life paintings in the style of Cezanne

We made Anglo-Saxon villages in Year 4.

4H INVESTIGATE ELECTRICITY

We really enjoyed dressing up and learning about the Anglo Saxons!

UFO crash landing!

This half term, we have been creating a dance sequence. We worked in groups to create a synchronized dance routine
