ROH Pop-Up Literature Festival is Coming to Thurrock

Have you ever fancied creating a jungle full of butterflies, making a ten-headed monster or painting a giant version of a famous art work? Have you ever wanted to jump inside a book and make that world a reality?

In 2014 the Pop-Up Literature Festival for children and young adults is coming to Thurrock.

This spring we are designing and building 12 interactive installations based on popular stories. Once finished, these will be open to the public to experience at the Pop-Up Festival which is taking place on the High House Production Park on Saturday 3 May 2014.

We would like to invite you to come along and join our group of professional designers and artists to make everything that is needed for this exciting new project.

We will be working in the exclusive setting of the ACME Artists’ Studios on the High House Production Park, Purfleet, RM19 1AF. Workshops will take place 10am-5pm on the following Saturdays:

1 February

8 February

15 February

22 February

1 March

8 March

15 March

22 March

Each workshop will contain a mixture of prop, set and costume making for the installations. You will also have an opportunity to find out more about these exciting stories and meet the authors.

No prior experience is needed, just enthusiasm and willingness to have a go!

Getting involved:

Getting involved couldn’t be easier: just email us (getinvolved@roh.org.uk) to let us know the dates you want to attend and how many places you would like. We will then be able to confirm which dates we are able to offer you spaces for. We will try to accommodate your first choices where possible but we do expect these sessions to book up, so the sooner you e-mail us the better. All workshops are free but prior application is essential.

The workshops are suitable for those aged eight and above. All children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Please bring your own lunch and other refreshments for the day, as well as clothes that you don’t mind getting paint on, and remember to dress warmly on cold days, as this is an industrial working space!

If you are interested in bringing a group (for example from a local youth club or organisation) please e-mail or call to discuss.

We hope to see you then.
