I am sure that if you asked your children to name their favourite part of the school day – they would say ‘breaktime’ or ‘playtime’. We are delighted that this is the case for the children, however, we plan to make this time of the day even better for them and us! On Monday we are launching a new lunch time initiative to make playtime even better. Our Midday Assistants will now not only supervise your children but will lead play with them using equipment which has been requested by the children through their School Councillors.
During the Spring Term each one of our Midday Staff attended a series of workshops on improving play and using lunch time as a ‘social learning experience’. We remain grateful for their hardwork and enthusiasm. We would also welcome any parents or grandparents who could spare an hour or two during the week to assist us with our new initiative and help us to run some lunch time clubs – these might include knitting, gardening, playing board games, and any other interests you have which you would be happy to share with children. Please let Mrs Ward know if there are any willing volunteers – we would of course need to have any volunteers CRB checked to comply with safeguarding regulations.
When I asked the children how we could make our school a better place, this was one of their suggestions. As you can see, although it has taken some time, we are finally ready to implement it.
